Last years Lambs are still growing fast with the ram lambs now up to 64Kg. The late autumn sales have been very successful with us selling ewes for breeding as well as rams for crossing. The season moves round quickly.... in a months time preparation will start for the next showing season with the shearing of show sheep. Below is Newburn Jericho in his winter clothes

September 2007

All of the ewes have been served by their chosen ram and are now all running with Cagedale Don (Kington show first prize). This years lambs are growing well with the largest ram lambs now weighing 55kg and the ewe lambs 48-50kg.

Thankfully the lifting of some of the FMD restrictions this week has meant that we have been able to deliver some of the sheep that were sold during the period of movement restriction.

Kington Show September 2007

There was a very good turn out of 7 exhibitors at the show this year and again we had a good year gaining Reserve Breed Champion, Two Firsts, a Second and a Third in the Four classes. Recently, we have had a good record at Kington gaining Two Supreme Breed Champions and three Reserve Breed Champions in the last Four years. Pictured is The Don winning the ram class

January 2007

All of the possible Show Sheep for 2007 have been Sheared out in the week. To the Left is a photo taken today of an 11 Month old female who may well be one of the 2007 Newburn Show Sheep. She weighs around 55kg, is Sired by Keepings Director and her Dam is Newburn D.05 (a Twin to Del Boy)

For more information on the Ryeland breed and it's history go to the Ryeland fbs site

THE 2007 SEASON IN PHOTOS

A top start to the season at the Royal Welsh Spring Fair with Supreme interbreed group Champion!

Next came a wet but very successful day at the Royal Bath and West with four firsts and two seconds out of 6 classes, Group Champion and Breed Reserve Champion.

On to the Three Counties where we won Champion pair of lambs and first placed Ram Lamb and Ewe Lamb at the National rare breeds show.

The Shropshire and West Midlands was another great show with a first, Group Champion, Breed Reserve Champion and one or two Strongbows!

The Royal.......the less said the better.

The Royal Welsh went swimmingly (quite litterally). The pair won the Ryeland Section of the Welsh Winter Fair 2006. Newburn carcasses consistently get U graded carcasses which is pretty impressive!

The ewes lamb at the beginning of february having been sheared around a month before and kept indoors.

We sell very few pedigree sheep -selling just three at the Show and Sale in the history of the Flock-. Those sheep that have been sold include the Newburn 2006 show ewe lamb which won at the Royal Welsh and Burwarton and then took top price in it's section at the sale (making almost twice as much as the second highest priced!) We also sold a Yearling ewe at the Sale in 2005. The ewe made £480 after the sale making it the highest priced female at the sale and as far as I know, ever!

For more information on the Ryeland breed and it's history go to the Ryeland fbs site
